La Sagrada Familia is a large unfinished Roman Catholic basilica in Barcelona, Spain, designed by the renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. It is considered one of Gaudí’s masterpieces and a pinnacle of his characteristic blend of Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms.

Construction of La Sagrada Familia began in 1882, and Gaudí became involved in 1883, transforming the project with his architectural and engineering style—combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms. Gaudí devoted the last years of his life to the project, and by the time of his accidental death in 1926, less than a quarter of the project was completed.

La Sagrada Familia’s design consists of a complex series of towers, each dedicated to a different religious figure. When completed, it will have 18 spires: twelve for the apostles, four for the evangelists, one for Mary, and another for Jesus. Its interior is equally striking, featuring lofty columns that mimic trees and branches, with rich detailing and symbolism throughout.
